Maria P. Freitas, DDS- General & Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Freitas is passionate about Dentistry, people, and life. She truly enjoys listening and connecting with her patients. She believes that wellness & balance are the foundation to a happy healthy life.
Dr. Freitas is committed to providing superior comprehensive care in a wholesome, caring atmosphere. Dr. Freitas is a world traveler, she speaks Portuguese, Spanish and French. She was born in Portugal but moved to the United States to pursue a college education. Dr. Freitas graduated from two dental technology programs, one in Portugal and the other at Southern Illinois University (SIU), a total of six years of dental training. At SIU she earned a Bachelors of Science degree, double majoring in Advanced Technical Studies and Dental Technology with a minor in Psychology. She graduated Magnum Cum Laude in two years. Yes, this normally takes four years! While taking 35 credit hours per semester, she also held the office of President of the European Student Association. After graduation, Dr. Freitas married her college sweetheart.
Dr. Freitas continued her dental education at the University of Illinois Medical Center (UIC). In 1995, she earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS), graduating with Honors & academic Awards. After graduation she did a one year Internship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at UIC and affiliated hospitals.
In 1996, Dr. Freitas was invited to join the staff of Mercy Hospital Medical Center where she practiced as the main hospital dentist for five years.
In the summer of 1999, while still practicing at Mercy Hospital, Dr. Freitas opened her dental practice, Brush & Floss Ltd, and has been serving the Schaumburg and Northwest Chicago communities since then.
In 2006, Dr. Freitas completed the Invisalign certification program. She is a believer in the proven benefits of Invisalign.
In addition to being in private practice, Dr. Freitas also teaches Dentistry at Midwestern University, College of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Freitas is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society and Chicago Dental Society. She also serves on the Peer Review Committee of the Chicago Dental Society and as volunteer Dentist in her community to help the underserved.
Her time away from work is dedicated to her family, especially her young son who is her greatest treasure. She practices yoga, enjoys swimming & fitness training, loves nature & culture.
